Jenna CP#5

Met with my conversation partner and her friend on Sunday 9/21 at a Sephora beauty class 7pm.

As I previously mentioned, I signed my partner and her friend up for a beauty class, with permission, at my place of work. I picked them up and they seemed really excited. The class was fast paced and I could tell that my partners were really focusing on listening to the facilitator. They did fabulously and answered questions with gusto. From what I could tell they had no problems with listening comprehension and even asked me about a couple of makeup terms (what mascara was called, etc.). They actually had one-on-one help with one of the coaches helping with the class and were able to compete a lip and cheek look with little guidance. At the end of the night when we all went home, my partners seemed satisfied with the experience and expressed interest in returning for another class. I loved this activity for my conversation partners because they are very fluent already, and this class gave them the opportunity to learn about "culture" (if you consider makeup culture) while listening to rapid speech and simultaneously engaging in listening comprehension. They did fab.

  1. What a great idea to take your CPs to Sephora -- absolutely it is "culture." You really made this CP session relevant to your students.
