Jenna TP#5

I met with my child tutee on Monday, 9/15.

Thus far, my tutee has been excelling too easily in everything I've given to her, so on Monday I decided to up the stakes and challenge her a little bit. I brought along the popular Halloween book, Room on the Broom, and the accompanying audiobook and my portable speaker. After a quick review and cut/paste activity of alphabetical order, we read Room on the Broom. I had my tutee turn the pages to ensure she was following along. I also paused the story multiple times for quick comprehension checks. At the end of the book I started a mini lesson on adjectives. Bingo. The lesson was just challenging enough to where my tutee wasn't breezing through everything, but actually synthesizing data to collect answers. When my tutee needed help finding answers to questions, I turned to the page for reference in the story book, but had her read aloud to find the answers. I will be reviewing adjectives this Wednesday at our tutoring session and transferring this lesson's material to another book.
