I again met with Youngseo and her family at the Collins public library. Similar to our previous tutoring sessions, we started by going over some of her homework. She had to practice writing the letters S, T, A, M, and P. There was also a group of sight words for her to practice.
After we finished working on her homework, we tried reading a book. I brought with me a copy of Dr. Seuss' Hop on Pop. Obviously Dr. Seuss books are easy to read but Hop on Pop is especially great for beginners. There are very few words longer than four or five letters in the whole story. Youngseo sounded out each word rather slowly and deliberately, but she recognized several sight words. I also tried to draw her attention to the illustrations to give her some context for what she was reading.
