Jenna TP#4

I met with my tutoring partner (only one of them came) at Atomic Coffee on Thursday 9/11.

I brought along some games on my iPhone to work on speaking activities. I would have preferred to have a group of tutees because the games are more fun that way, but you know, sometimes people just don't show. I quickly downloaded a free version of Taboo and my partner and I described words to each other without using easy key words to try to get each other to guess the word! My partner struggled because it was hard for him to think of synonyms to the key words we weren't allowed to use. The game ended in good spirits and I suggested we play another similar game called Heads Up.

We tried to play heads up, but this was significantly more difficult because my partner did not know many of the pop culture references or vocabulary, specifically- animal names. In theory, the game should have been easier because it does not limit the use of specific words. This has shed light on my future tutoring sessions and informed me that I need to work on more than speaking skills (which is what my tutees requested I help them with). I will hopefully start to incorporate more vocab and comprehension into our sessions.
