Conversation Partner No. 5

Sonny's BBQ Restaurant

On Wednesday Marissa invited me to bring my tutee, Nina, and other conversation partner, Nathalia, to Sonny's BBQ for them to try American BBQ. Jesus, Marissa's conversation partner, was also there and will be leaving Saturday to return to Columbia. Nathalia ordered sweet tea because sweet tea isn't a prominent drink in Brazil. Marissa ordered friend corn nuggets and everyone tried them. Nina and Nathalia commented on how sweet American food is, including the coleslaw and BBQ sauce. I never really thought about it until she pointed it out to us. Marissa brought up a Brazilian entree called coxinha which is shredded chicken, cheese, and other ingredients in the shape of a chicken leg and then deep fried. 

We talked about different types of BBQ in Brazil and in America as well as other types of food found in the different regions of Brazil. Jesus talked to us about Columbia and the different food in his country as well. Jesus was telling us about his experience in the United States and at CIES. He is very excited to return home to his wife and family, but really enjoyed his time here in Tallahassee. Nina, Nathalia, and Jesus all enjoyed the food they ordered and we had a great time together. It's always fun being able to show new friends of different cultures how things work here in the States.
