TEFL Tutor Session No. 6
Chick-fil-A, West Tennessee Street

I met with only Nina today at the Chick-fil-A on Tennessee Street. We started our session with a review of last session where we worked on pronunciation of words with similar endings and then we got into some new material. Before we got started, Nina presented me with a cup of Brazilian chocolate that tasted like a mixture of chocolate and caramel. It was delicious and she made it herself. We talked about her day and her week so far. She was looking forward to Saturday because it was her birthday. She and her friends were having a party at her apartment complex so I could tell she was excited.

I printed out some worksheets from an EFL activities website that once again worked on pronunciation skills and speaking. We put words into different categories based on their ending sounds. All of the words sounded similar so it took a lot of close listening. Nina's pronunciation skills are very good and most of her issues are mainly related to her accent, which I don't want to try to change.

She showed me some of the work that she was doing in her classes that week and we talked a little bit more about school as well as how she was in the U.S. (through a governmental scholarship) how she missed her family (they would be coming to visit) and how crappy the food was at the dining halls. We had a few minutes left in our session so I showed her my grocery list and I took her through it, Googling certain items of food that she didn't know right off the top of her head or that she was confused about. Most of the time, once she saw the picture of the item she was aware of what it was.

Altogether, it was another great session and although Abdul wasn't able to make it, we still had a successful meeting, even getting in some girl talk and really getting to know each other.
