I met my conversation partner, Natalia, at Atomic Coffee. She moved from Brazil to Tallahassee a few weeks ago. She can speak very basic English, but for the most part she is able to communicate well. Natalia is 23 years old and has come to FSU to study English, once she passes the TOEFL exam she plans to study engineering. Although she is a little slow when speaking she is not afraid to try. We had a great time chatting about her home town in Brazil and she is very excited to in Tallahassee because she has never been to the United States. I let her try my iced coffee because in Brazil they only drink coffee hot, she hated it! She thought it was so weird to put ice in coffee.
She told me that the other day her and a friend went to CVS but they didn't understand how to use the self check-out and that they weren't able to successfully communicate with the employees. Our next meeting she wants to go back to CVS so I can teach her how to navigate a transaction and communicate with the employees.
Natalia is lucky to have you as such a creative conversation partner. She will learn English quickly if you assist her in lifestyle situations.
