CP #1 - Sepideh's Office - WJB

Today was my first conversation partner meeting with Sepideh. She is a P.H., D. student in Food Sciences and has done a lot of research on food allergens. Today we only were able to meet for an hour because she had a class to attend at 3 PM, but we were able to get a lot of conversation in. Before we started with the exercise she wanted to practice, we introduced ourselves and talked about our family life back home. She is from Iran and has two younger brothers, one who is still in Iran with her parents and the other who is an industrial engineer in California. I told her about my family and showed her pictures of my parents and hometown. Sepideh is currently enrolled in a Speaking course at CIES and once she passes that she will be able to become a TA for a food sciences lab class. Her dedication was exemplified today when we practiced how to teach a Day 1 class. She had a syllabus and was required to speak through it, hitting all the main points and utilizing transitions throughout. 

She struggled with transitioning from one topic to the next as well as trying to figure out how to phrase certain sentences. I helped her word things the way she wanted and then she did a quick run through as if I were her class and she was the instructor. She did very well and I can definitely see her being successful on Monday when she has to present this to her class. 

Altogether, it was a wonderful meeting. I look forward to meeting with her again next Wednesday afternoon.
