PJ's House
I tutored PJ again last weekend. This time we met in the morning, his mom said that he had been up late the night before, so he was really tired. This definitely affected his concentration, but I was able to keep him on track. Again we worked on homework sent home by his teacher. He read a short passage, "How The Zebra Got His Stripes" which seemed to be a little more difficult than the reading last week. He was able to read almost all of the words and understand the meaning of each sentence, but I don't think he understood the main idea of the story. This made it difficult to answer the comprehension questions so it took almost the whole hour. He had to go back and re-read parts of the story, and he needed a little guidance for some of them but we were able to finish the assignment within the hour.
I could tell he was loosing focus, so for the last few minutes I let him pick a story to read from a book with lots of pctures. We took turns reading a page out loud, I figured that if he could listen to the story as well as follow along and look at the pictures he might have an easier time staying interested.
