Calyn Stringer's Composition class (Level 4) completed an "Integrated Task" in class today. Ms. Stringer explained that this activity was great preparation for the TOEFL and for students who hope to succeed in grad school.

I think this activity is one from which most high school and freshmen students in the U.S. could learn. An Integrated Task requires students to demonstrate analysis, synthesis, creation by summarizing in writing information they have read and heard.

I participated (independently) in the assigned reading, listening, writing under the same deadlines as the students. Doing this, I experienced, firsthand, the challenge of the assignment and gained real appreciation of how challenging the assignment is for ELLs. Also, I took notes on how Ms. Stringer introduced, taught and concluded the lesson.

This class taught me I must research how practicing Integrated Tasks prepares students for TOEFL.
