Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned:Today I went to CIES during lunch and met three random students in the conference room. Nader is from Kuwait, he is a level 3/4 student and wants to study mechanical engineering at FSU. Mohamed was also from Kuwait and wants to go on to FSU to study mechanical engineering and last but not least, Mohamed was also from Kuwait and plans on studying mechanical engineering as well. The three of them have been in the US for about 6 months and they are all at CIES working on their english in order to pass the IAL test(?) which they have to drive down to Tampa to take. Both Mohameds had just been down this past weekend to take parts of the test. Nader had the most to say out of three, they were all on their cell phones watching/listening to things in their own language. He told me that understanding people's accents was the hardest part of learning english. He also told me his favorite place to eat in town was Samarat. Three more students, Salam, Fahad and Berjes or "Jack" came into the room and I had a nice chat with them as well, but since they were lower level students they didn't have much to say.
