Class Observation 2
Wilson's Speaking class
Group 1
I observed Andrew Wilson's Group 1 speaking class on Tuesday. It was during the final week of the session so the students had a final vocabulary test. Andrew gave them about 20 minutes to complete the test which asked them to replace underlined phrases with a similar phrase from the word bank, write a physical description of the woman in the picture, fill in a blank check and answer two short answer questions about polite behavior when holding a conversation. I like how he incorporated practical cultural knowledge with the vocabulary and speaking test.
For the rest of the time the class presented their final presentations. The assignment was to make a video about a place or event and include images of their topic with informative dialogue in the background. The two presentations I saw were about Brazil and Alaska. Both were very good, it seems like the most difficult thing for students of this level is pronunciation.
Andrew is a great teacher. He was very animated and entertaining to listen to. His students seem to really enjoy his class.
