PJ's House
I tutored PJ, my child tutee, again on Sunday. He had lots of homework to work on. First we read a short poem about fall and the first day of school. I asked him questions to check his comprehension and we discussed his favorite part of the first day of school. He pointed out that the poem rhymed and was able to think of even more words to rhyme with the words the author had used. His teacher had also sent home a chapter book that he would be tested on soon. He read about 2 chapters allowed, I stopped him every few pages so we could discuss what was happening and to make sure he could understand all of the vocabulary. There was a list of vocabulary words that we went over. There was a sentence and a picture with each new word so it wasn't very difficult. He even told me that the words were too easy so I asked him to use them in sentences to make it a little more difficult, but he breezed though that as well. We got a lot done in a pretty short amount of time and even had some time at the end to chat. I think changing activities often really helped to keep him focused.
