Igor and I went to the Side Bar to see a show with my friends. We had a great time! I forget the name of the band. Igor asked me what kind of music it was. I had a hard time explaining it but I told him it was alternative new wave. I hope I was correct. He said he had never heard anything like it before. He also asked me how he is supposed to dance to it. I told him he could do whatever he wanted, he would be better than most of the people dancing there anyways.
He pointed out a boy that was dancing very strangely and jerkily with his head down. We both laughed at him and I told him it's not very uncommon. I explained how some people go to shows just to do drugs and he was probably one of those people.
We went outside for a while and he talked to my friends and other people we had met there. I noticed the personal space difference between the cultures. He would put his hand on a man's shoulder or on the back of the neck and pat them on the back. My friends were a little taken back. I decided not to explain it to him. I'm sure with time he will notice the cultural difference and adapt. Personally for me it's refreshing to see a man give friendly touch to another man.
We also talked about the corruption of police in Brazil. My friends were saying the police are corrupt here too but I think they don't understand the level of blatant and brazen corruption present in Brazil and most other areas of South America. He was explaining that you have to bribe the police not to ruin your day or your life. They work with drug dealers as well.
I really like spending time with Igor. He is so nice, interesting, and fun to be around. I hope he learns as much from me and my friends as I do from him.
