TP#10
Date: 10/2/14
Time: 8:00-10:30 pm
Location: Madison Social
On Thursday night, I tutored Roberta and Melissa. This was
not our traditional tutoring session. They both emphasize how out badly they
want to improve their speaking skills, so this session I wanted them to
practice their English in a more natural and real life circumstance. I took
them to Madison Social for dinner. They had never been to a place like this
before in Tallahassee, I could tell by the excitement in their eyes when they
would look around college town. Once we got there I had them independently
order their drinks. After that we went over every ingredient on the menu with
the help of Google images they understood what each was. Once we all decided
what we were going to eat they ordered their entrée. I could tell they were
hesitant and didn’t want to be embarrassed by their accent or incorrect pronunciation
of “aioli”, but they successfully order and the server had no problem
understanding them. Throughout the rest of the dinner we exchanged ideas on
music, interests, dreams, and future plans. I always enjoy tutoring them, so
much so that I procrastinated doing my homework for my classes until about 11:00
at night. I might have given up some sleep this night, but it was definitely worth
it. I hope they enjoyed this session as much as I did.
